The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller
Historical Fiction, Trojan War, Greek Mythology, Love, War
The story of Achilles and Patroclus, from the time they meet as children to their involvement in the Trojan War. It is incredibly faithful to the story of the Iliad as well as the mythology surrounding the characters while adding depth to people who usually aren’t much more than their names. The foreshadowing of the events of the Trojan War is perfect but so sad if you already know how it ends (even knowing what will happen, the suspense of not knowing quite how it will happen is there). The Song of Achilles manages to make the story of the Trojan War something new and personal and heartbreaking. If you are a fan of mythology this will not disappoint.
